Wild Orchid has come from the deep frustration I felt when looking for my wedding dress back in 2020. Having worked in the waste and recycling industry for 18 years I've seen first hand how wasteful we are as a society, and didn't want my wedding to follow that trend.
So when I was looking for my wedding dress for my big day, I wanted a pre-loved one - BUT to do this I could only buy online or trek to one of the few Oxfam specialist charity shops around the country. I loved the bridal store experience, and felt really conflicted when I found "the one" and wanting to find a pre-loved one on line, but with a deep sense of guilt that this was a loss of income to the bridal store who had given me such a great experience.
In the end I bought my dress at the bridal store, and I was fortunate enough to wear it twice as due to COVID we ended up having two wedding days, our official wedding with a small group of immediate family and our big day a year later.
Since then I've been working (alongside a full time job and being elected a district councillor in Stroud!) to develop the concept of Wild Orchid bridal, so brides can make a conscious decision about their perfect dress if they wish, newly weds can make some room in their cupboards and bridal stores can include a more sustainable choice in their wedding dress options in store.
